When I was first diagnosed with MS, I felt like I was stuck – like stuck in quick stand and couldn’t get out. Yes, I was obviously terrified, confused, and well, just sad… but mostly, I hated the fact that I couldn’t do anything about the fact that I had this disease. Typically in my life, when I want something, I go after it.. I work really hard to get the results that I am looking for. But, with MS, I felt like I was pushed into a corner and couldn’t get out. I was stuck with an incurable illness that came out of nowhere. But, soon after my diagnosis, I realized that even though I couldn’t change the fact that I had this disease, I could change my behavior… my outlook… I could change my reaction.

All of my activism work, healthy eating and lifestyle changes started once I realized that I did have control over my own actions on how I tackled the disease. I could change my outlook and food intake, I could get on a medication, I could get advice and direction from the best doctors, and I could fight for a cure through awareness, activism and helping others. I was adamant that I would not take this diagnosis and fall. I would prevail and continue to move my life forward in the best way I knew how.

I may have MS but MS does not have me.

Spring for a Cure”, a fundraiser I am hosting this spring, is one of the many ways I have chosen to take control of my MS. It’s another way I am able to change the future of this disease and not let it win. I will be part of the change; I will be a part of the cure.

I want to offer a special thanks to ComEd, our event sponsor, and to all of you who’ve continuously shown your support since my diagnosis. I’m incredibly humbled, and proud to tell you that in just three years, we’ve raised more than $80,000. This year, we hope to hit $100,000!

Hope to see you there!

Angie
