New Year, New Office Space

One of the major downfalls of not working at an office anymore is not having a functional office set up – like easy access to a printer, filing cabinets, and ample amounts of space and supplies. So as a gift to myself for working so hard last year, I decided to upgrade my working space and get all of those much needed items! Check out my awesome new work space.
I work out of my bedroom and let’s be honest – my office didn’t really work in the space. While our room is a good size, the desk I had was blocking our main window and didn’t really work with the plethora of empty space that surrounded it. So I decided to call Mike from Inspired Closets, who I’ve used countless times before, to help build a custom desk / office area complete with built-ins. This would not only fill in that empty, awkward space but add a functional working area with a place for a filing cabinet, printer and accessories. I couldn’t be happy with how it turned out! Check it out.
Before…
After…
I worked directly with owner, Mike to create the perfect little nook. He came over for a free consultation, measured the space, and came up with some solutions and drew them out for me to see. Best of all, in less than a few weeks I had this new space!
Onto decorating…
I wanted the space to look clean, modern but also fun and represent my style so I added the following…..
Greenery
Plants and flowers just add so much life to any space so I knew I wanted to incorporate a few. I found some vases I loved from Saks Off 5th and brought them to Sprout Home to fill with low maintenance plants. I made sure none needed a lot of water or direct sunlight so I wouldn’t have to worry about them.
Fun Gold Accessories
From the gold stapler and big scissors to the funky frames and accessories, I think the swapping standard office supplies just elevates the look and feel of the space. Nate Berkus has such a fun line at Target that’s very affordable.
Organization Must-Haves
I love being organized and “buttoned up” so I went to Container Store to make sure I had exactly what I needed. Since I no longer had a traditional desk with drawers, I bought some accessories to help ensure I had a place for all items – big and small. I also added in a filing cabinet with color coded folders and hidden printer with a scrolling shelf for easy in/out access.
Decorative items
I traded in the standard bookends for these fun ones from CB2. I also added in some edgy frames and accessories from Target and HomeGoods. They have the cheapest, best items when you need filler to decorate but don’t want to break the bank.
I’m SO happy I made the investment because now everything has a place and I actually feel more productive everyday (such a great feeling!).
If you need built-ins, closet or pantry organization, I can’t recommend Inspired Closets enough. And for the month of January they’re offering 10% off installs using code 10OFFJAN. Mention my name and Mike will take care of you too!
