I am excited to introduce you all to Beth Prystowsky, an inspirational MSer, mom and yogi who has created one of the top MS websites for research, information, and inspiration – Modern Day MS.

Modern Day MS is a valuable asset for anyone with MS. Although we’ve never met in person, I’ve followed Beth and Modern Day MS on Facebook religiously (you should too!) and am so appreciative to have found a positive source of inspiration about MS online. Her website includes key research, treatment options and even recommended neurologists so it’s a great place to search for more info (especially for those of you who are recently diagnosed!).

Name: Beth Prystowsky

Age: 39

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a mother, wife, yoga teacher and writer living in the Chicago suburbs.

How old were you when you were diagnosed?

35

Tell us a little about your first symptoms and how you were diagnosed.

I woke up with my right hand and foot numb one Saturday morning.

If you had to attest you living Well and Strong to one thing, what would it be?

YOGA!

You started Modern Day MS. Can you tell us a little about what it is and what motivated you to start this website? What has it led to?

When I was diagnosed my family and I immediately went to Google to learn about the disease and everything we found was very depressing and scary.  I was told that this is a “good time” to be diagnosed with multiple sclerosis because there is a ton of research, new medications and treatments that hopefully will cure the disease in our lifetime.

I decided to start Modern Day MS as a positive, current, informative and safe place to learn about the disease and provide hope to those scared, discouraged or frustrated. It has led to incredible relationships, stories and support for myself and many others around the world.

What are some of the strategies you use to keep MS under control?

I do my best to eat clean, practice yoga regularly and try to keep stress levels down.  I’ve also learned that I need to give myself time to rest in a quiet space everyday.

What are some of the things you’ve done despite having MS… Any accomplishments?

Starting Modern Day MS for sure.  I’ve also not let MS stop me from traveling and taking my kid’s places, I simply need to adapt plans slightly at time.

What advice would you give someone who’s recently been diagnosed?

I wrote an article about this on my site that outlines the 6 steps I’d recommend you take. Click here to read.
