Leaving on a jet plane…

Bill and I are heading on our first, parents-only vacation today! We are spending the next 8 days in Prague, Budapest and Vienna exploring the sights, tasting the cuisine and being adventurous – just the two of us! Check out what we have in store and how you can follow along..

Eurotrip, here we come!

I’ve been planning this trip for months now and it’s hard to believe it’s finally here! From the tours to the trains to the many restaurants, I can’t wait to experience all these cities have to offer.

As excited as I am to go, I’m also a bit anxious about leaving Chloe. We’ve done a few smaller weekends away but we’ve never left her for this long. I know, however, that she’s in the best of hands with my mom and step-dad who will be staying at our home and watching both of our babes (Oscar too!). They’ll be in grandbaby heaven and Chloe loves being with her Nona, so it’s a win-win! I think I’ll have the hardest time being away, to be honest!

At the same time, I am really looking forward to spending some time just with Bill and experiencing something new together! As many parents can relate, it’s tough finding a balance between being a mom and being your own self. I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to have visited many countries all over the word. It’s part of who I am, and I don’t want to give that up because I have a baby.

My husband and I share a passion for adventure and exploration (especially by foot!) so visiting European destinations has been our go-to since we got married. We honeymooned in the south of France, Positano and Rome, and while pregnant with Chloe visited Paris, Zurich and Lucerne.

So why Prague, Budapest, and Vienna? Well, they’ve been on my list for a while now for their unique culture, history and cuisine, and are places we haven’t been (we try to avoid countries one of us have been before). We can explore these smaller cities by foot and take the train from one to the next – plus, United now has a direct flight home from Vienna (score!).

Another huge bonus? You can enjoy the most luxurious hotels and unique culinary experiences for a fraction of what they would cost in more popular European cities. We have reservations every night ranging from Anthony Bourdain’s top picks like La Degustation to trying Steirereck, rated the 9th best restaurant in the world. I will report back on our experiences and would love to hear from you in the “comments” section if you have any recommendations as well.  Rather than continuing scheduled posts while I’m gone, I thought I’d encourage you all to instead follow me on our trip through social media to get the play by play.

If you aren’t already, follow me on Instagram here or Facebook here. I’ll be using the hashtag #RandallsEuroAdventure

Zatím se měj! (“See you later” in Czech ;))

What fun! Congrats on what sounds like a great trip. I wonder it you make any accommodations for having MS while you travel. If I remember correctly from your blog, your current DMT is IV based, so perhaps you don’t have to worry about meds when you go. Do you carry any info, like an id bracelet say, or make sure to do xyz before you travel to enjoy your safest and healthiest experience? I’m less than a year diagnosed, and haven’t made a trip since then, so am curious.

Hi Vanessa, thanks so much for reading along and for your note! Traveling with MS was originally scary for me (and caused me to cancel a few trips) but now, I’ve gotten the hang of it. Luckily my medication is IV so I don’t have to worry about that. I generally feel really good on a day to day basis with it. Few things I do.. traveling in winter helps (sun can become a problem, especially if you lay out or exercise it) and Europe is currently cold at the moment ;). Anxiety/stress and MS is a big trigger for me, and I’ve found opted to take Xanax for for flights. I don’t really like having to take anything but even the smallest amount helps take off the edge. I generally do everything else the same.. take breaks.. try to sleep. If I need to, I’ll stop but I’ve been lucky lately with my new medication.. Best of luck to you and please keep me posted on your travels 🙂
